The Standard VBuccaneer range of waterproof connectors is a bio-based alternative to Bulgin’s flagship series, the Standard Buccaneer. Built on decades of proven reliability, this latest addition to our portfolio boasts a more planet-friendly design – crafted from sustainable plastics while delivering the same technical performance of our existing range.
StandardVBuccaneer is a more environmentally friendly solution made for a range of markets that require robust connections in harsh environments, from industrial and automotive to marine. It matches the proven quality of our Standard Buccaneer connectors – as well as featuring the same level of environmental protection – but with a more sustainable formulation that contains up to 86% bio-based content by weight.
Two new plastics were carefully selected to replace existing materials: one derived mainly from tropical castor oil that don’t compete with the food chain, and another sourced primarily from biomass waste and residue.
EU-based company Envalior is the sole provider of these plastics, which have been developed by Bulgin to blend mechanical function with sustainable design, improving the Standard Buccaneer’s eco-credentials while ensuring there is no compromise on performance.

Packaging
The packaging bags for Standard V Buccaneer connectors is comprised of polyethylene and a bio-additive, making them fully biodegradable - tested and approved in accordance with EN13432.
This means they can be recycled with regular plastics or discarded with general waste, where they will break down into environmentally benign components in a fraction of the time required for conventional polyethylene.
Our boxes are 100% recyclable for environmentally sound packaging.
Moving Toward a Sustainable Future, One Initiative at a Time
The Standard V Buccaneer range was created to meet the growing demand from Bulgin’s customers for sustainable solutions, while also supporting the company’s own goals, alongside other initiatives such as:
- Installation of motion sensor lighting in the company’s factories, as well as the creation or more circuits, to ensure lights are only in use when required
- Reducing the amount of space lost in shipping containers to lower the overall carbon footprint for transported goods
- Working on a ‘regrind project’, where some waste materials are reused to make viable products
- Sending by-products of CNC processing back to the original suppliers, so they can be melted down and reused
- Insourcing projects to reduce the distance travelled by some of the company’s products
